Gardemeles

Gardemeles is the old name for Stove and means house on the sand

John Rae was an Orkney doctor and Explorer who discovered the north west passage. He also discovered that the Franklin expedition had resorted to cannibilism. During his travels the Inuit guide, Albert One Eye perished and his ship became trapped by ice.
