The predominance of southerly wind in June
& lack of northerly would have meant that
June 1769 was far warmer than June 2019.
This is borne out by almost twice as many fine days
in June 1769. June 2019 has been exceptionally cold
& inclement although the occurrence of strong winds or
gales is identical.
Diane Grieve a lifelong inhabitant of Sanday can
remember many cold summers looking back.
She says that it depends which direction the wind
is blowing on May 1st because it will stay in this
direction until the Autumn.
